The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Wednesday announced 546 new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases of 15,738. 

11 deaths have been announced in the country, bring the total number of victims to 157. 

The month of May witnessed an increase in recoveries from coronavirus. The recovery average stands at 150 cases this month while there was an average of 100 recoveries in the previous months. Total number of recoveries stand 3359 and the number is continuously increasing. A total of 206 new recoveries are received on Wednesday.

UAE conducts 1.3 million coronavirus tests

The country is also steadily ramping up Covid-19 testing. As of May 5, the UAE has conducted 1.3 million coronavirus tests, which were done by hospitals, specialist health centres and 14 drive-through testing centres.

The number of people who have recovered from the virus has doubled in the past two weeks, jumping from 1,443 on April 21 to 3,153 on May 5, at an average of 122 cases per day.

The UAE is continuing its efforts to expand its scope of testing in all regions of the country, to ensure the early detection of those infected and isolate those they had contact with.

In this context, the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company, SEHA, announced the launch of a new testing centre in Mussafah, which aims to conduct 335,000 tests for residents and workers in the region over the next two weeks.

The centre will complete the healthcare infrastructure already in Mussafah, including the national testing centre in Basin 42 next to the bazaar, and the national testing centre in Basin 1, also known as the" Mussafah Old Clinic," which were restored by SEHA and can receive 7,500 people daily.

UAE has endured pandemic well

On the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the UAE Armed Forces Unification Day, the UAE Rulers have praised the efforts of the Armed Forces, Civil Defence and medical professionals in curbing the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

They said the unprecedented crisis has proven the strength of the UAE's institutional structures and the resilience of its healthcare systems. They urged the Armed Forces to adapt to the changing concept and dynamics of national security in the wake of the pandemic

India to begin its largest overseas evacuation

Meanwhile, India is set to begin its largest overseas evacuation of stranded Indian nationals abroad since Independence. The first flight to India carrying stranded Indian citizens will depart from Dubai International Airport at 2.10pm, UAE time. The first flight will land in Kozhikode, Kerala. The maiden repatriation flight will carry at least 170 passengers and the missions are still in the process of finalising the list of Indian citizens who wish to return home amid the coronavirus crisis.
