Move announced after directives from Abu Dhabi Crown Prince
Abu Dhabi: Emirati citizens, pregnant women, and residents over the age of 50 will be tested for free for COVID-19 starting next week, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported on Tuesday.
The move was announced today after His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, issued directives to test some social categories for free, as part of the country’s precautionary measures being taken to counter the spread of coronavirus.
In a joint statement, the Ministry of Health and Prevention and the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority announced that Sheikh Mohammed has directed a free COVID-19 tests for Emirati citizens and their domestic workers along with people of determination, pregnant women, and residents over the age of 50 years, in addition to those who have symptoms associated with the virus and those in close contact with the confirmed cases.
Health authorities will later specify and announce the dates and times of free tests.
Both the ministry and authority noted that Sheikh Mohammed’s initiative comes in line with the wise leadership’s keenness to take all measures to tackle the novel virus and to ensure the health and safety of all segments of the society.
